“When you visit the farm,” Lindsay said, “you don’t just pick out a tree. You make a memory. Boo and Ivy are part of that memory now."
The smell of pine greets you before you even reach the drive at Thomley’s Christmas Tree Farm. Rows of trees stand like sentinels of holiday cheer, waiting for families to wander through and find the one destined for their home. Somewhere in the background, you hear a child’s laughter. A cheerful sign points you toward handmade ornaments, wreaths, and maybe even a chance to blow your own glass ornament. It’s the kind of place you might find in a Christmas movie—the kind of place that feels like home.
A home that’s made stronger by the family and pets who reside there.
“For as long as I can remember, animals have been a part of my life,” Lindsay, the owner of Thomley’s Christmas Tree Farm, shared recently. “We’ve had goats, pigs, rabbits, even peacocks! But what’s a farm without a cat? In September of 2022, my son and I decided it was time to make this place feel even more like home. We went to Southern Pines Animal Shelter to adopt, thinking we’d each bring home a cat.”
That trip to the shelter turned into something much more.
“My son fell in love instantly with a handsome grey shorthair. I had my eye on a sweet little tortie. Something about her seemed like she’d be the perfect fit for the boy we’d picked. Once decided, we made our way to the front to make it official and adopt. To my complete surprise and delight, a staff member told us they were littermates! They had been brought in recently, and it was just the two of them. I was thrilled to be able to keep them together!”
In line with their mission to combat overpopulation, the cats received spay/neuter services and wellness care at Southern Pines Healthy Pet Clinic to prepare them for the next chapter of their lives.
With their health needs met, they were ready to settle into life at the farm. The pair became Boo and Ivy, two mischievous, lovable cats who quickly won over not just the Thomley family but everyone who set foot on the farm.
“Boo is the charmer,” Lindsay explained. “He loves being in the middle of the action—posing for photos, soaking up attention from children on field trips, and greeting visitors like he owns the place. Ivy is our adventurer. She’s curious about everything—and I mean everything. Leave your car door open, and you might find yourself driving home with an unexpected passenger!”
These days, Boo and Ivy are as much a part of the farm’s identity as its towering pines. Whether they’re napping in a patch of sunlight or leaving “gifts” from their mousing expeditions, they’ve added a special kind of magic to Thomley’s—a warmth that feels especially fitting at Christmastime.
“When you visit the farm,” Lindsay said, “you don’t just pick out a tree. You make a memory. Boo and Ivy are part of that memory now. They’ve brought so much joy to our lives and to everyone who meets them. Adopting them didn’t just fill our farm; it filled our hearts.”
This holiday season, Southern Pines is working to bring that same joy to more families—and you can help.
Thanks to a generous anonymous donor, every gift made through December will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $20,000! That means every dollar you give DOUBLES THE IMPACT, helping more pets receive the medical care they need and find loving homes.
When you give, you’re helping animals like Boo and Ivy find their second chance.
At Thomley’s Christmas Tree Farm, Boo and Ivy bring the magic of the season to life. Their journey—from the care they received at Southern Pines Healthy Pet Clinic to their adoption at Southern Pines Animal Shelter—has become part of the farm’s holiday story.
Lindsay reflects, “Boo and Ivy add so much joy to the farm, and they filled a void that definitely needed filling. I’m so thankful to our friends at Southern Pines for giving all these babies second chances. Please consider adopting today and bringing a pet home for the holidays. It’ll most definitely change both your lives for the better.”
This Christmas, we can help create stories as beautiful as Boo and Ivy’s—together.
Would you consider making a gift today and doubling your impact for pets in need?
And if you find yourself needing the perfect tree, some fun at a market, a little time away at one of their Air BnBs, or maybe just a little Christmas magic, Boo and Ivy will be waiting to greet you at Thomley’s Christmas Tree Farm.
