"Over the course of a week, a total of 9 cats were successfully trapped, spayed, neutered, and safely returned to their familiar environment."
While passing through downtown Laurel, Mississippi, Laura, a visitor from Florida, made an unexpected but impactful discovery—multiple cats roaming near the Bird Dog Café.
Recognizing the need for help, she generously offered to cover the cost of a TNR (trap, neuter, return) initiative for these community cats. The cafe’s owner, Karen, has long been dedicated to supporting the local cat population, and her ongoing personal efforts have created a sense of community and home for both these cats and those who visit the area.
Thanks to Laura’s kindness, Karen’s dedication, a collaboration with Southern Pines Healthy Pet Clinic, and our current spay and neuter specials sponsored by Bissell Pet Foundation, the trapping process was set in motion.
Over the course of a week, a total of 9 cats were successfully trapped, spayed, neutered, and safely returned to their familiar environment. However, during this process, it became clear that many of the clinic’s traps were old and in desperate need of replacement. Fortunately, Brookhaven Animal Rescue League stepped in, lending enough traps to ensure the project’s success.
Now, we are appealing for your help! To continue supporting the TNR efforts in our community, we’re aiming to raise $3,750 to purchase 30 new humane cat traps for our clinic. Anything raised over what we need to purchase new traps will go toward helping to offset the cost of community cat spay and neuter. These traps are essential tools in giving community cats a chance at a healthier life and controlling the local cat population humanely.

Together, we can change their lives—one trap, one neuter, one safe return at a time.
