“He’s given me a reason to wake up and the motivation to go to work and class, knowing I get to come home to him.”
Life has a way of testing us, pushing us to the brink of what we think we can endure. Some days, the challenges seem overwhelming, the struggles heavier than the victories. But even in the darkest times, there are moments that remind us why we keep going.
Theresa wasn’t planning to adopt a pet the day she walked into Southern Pines Animal Shelter. She was searching for clarity during a difficult time. That’s when she saw Godfrey—a beautiful orange tabby with an ulcerated eye.
“He got up and came right to me, and I felt a spark,” Theresa recalls. “I saw him, and I just knew.”
Godfrey had come to the shelter in need of care, and in that moment, an undeniable bond formed between them. Theresa renamed him Fregley, and he quickly became her purpose, giving her strength when she hadn’t realized how much she needed it. “The first night I brought Freggie home, he played with me right away. Then he started making biscuits and purring. I remember crying the first time he cuddled with me. He’s become my pride and joy. He’s given me a reason to wake up and the motivation to go to work and class, knowing I get to come home to him.”
There’s something transformative about a connection that accepts you as you are—a love that asks for nothing in return yet gives everything. “He kept me up the other night with this new toy I got him,” Theresa says, smiling. “He’s such a goofball and loves to jump around the room. He finally met his grandma (my mom), and she instantly fell in love with him.”
Fregley’s love lifted Theresa from a dark place, filling her life with brightness—an echo of his own journey through loss. Due to an infection, Fregley lost an eye. His road to healing included surgery, medications, and countless visits to Southern Pines Healthy Pet Clinic, where he became as much a family member to the clinic staff as he has to Theresa.
“The clinic has been incredibly kind and supportive,” Theresa shares. “They all love him and treat him like a celebrity. I was worried about his surgery, but they made it so easy. Thank you, Southern Pines.”
In their own ways, Fregley and Theresa found healing and companionship in each other. Together, they’ve shared that warmth with the shelter and clinic, creating a ripple of kindness that will never fade. There is always light in the darkness, a glimmer at the end of the tunnel. Kindness is magic, and we are honored to be part of it.
This #GivingTuesday, you can help create that magic. Your gift will provide medical care and second chances to shelter pets like Fregley, ensuring they receive the love and attention they need to thrive.
Every act of kindness makes a difference. Every gift creates change.
Together, we can continue creating stories of love, healing, and transformation. Thank you for being part of this journey.
